The reference in the Historia is probably the oldest extant mention of this hunt, though it is possible a mention in the Gwarchan Cynfelyn of the Book of Aneirin (See Oher Works) could date back to as early as the 6^thC.*. Irish sources also mention the boar in works at least as old as the Historia*. Bromwich and Evans* list references in works from up to the 15^thC.
