The name appears to be associated with two legends: the first that Arthur passed through Carmarthenshire on his way to the battle of Camlann, and, finding the stone in his shoe, threw it the seven miles to its current location*. The second is that Arthur can be seen by moonlight riding a white horse along the road between the two lines of large stones*.
